Czech Convention Bureau Joins Net Zero Carbon Events Initiative
With its signature, the Czech Convention Bureau has joined the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative and has committed to follow the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030 and achieving a "net zero" by 2050 in meetings and incentive tourism activities in the Czech Republic.
The Global Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE) initiative was presented in November 2021 at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, where leading representatives of different countries across the world met to look for ways towards achieving the Paris agreement commitments. In Glasgow, signatories of the initiative from the meetings and events sector or from related industries and organizations committed to actively contribute to tackling climate change.
The objectives and provisions of the NZCE have already been supported by the Czech Convention Bureau - a part of the CzechTourism agency and an umbrella organization in the field of meetings and incentive tourism. Tereza Matějková, Senior Manager of the Czech Convention Bureau, explained the importance of this step in a press release issued on this occasion: "Pursuing sustainable ways of organizing events is a long-term goal of many partners across the sector. The Net Zero Carbon Events initiative is another step on this path and a great example of cross-border cooperation. In the role of supporting association, we are joining this agreement alongside other European convention bureaus."
The objectives of the NZCE include, for example, joint communication of the “net zero” commitment, development of a methodology for measuring greenhouse gas emissions produced by the sector and a roadmap towards zero emissions, engagement of suppliers and customers, establishment of common reporting mechanisms and sharing best practices.
The now almost two hundred signatories of Net Zero Carbon Events include AIM Group International, a company specializing in conferences, events and communication, whose Prague branch has successfully been implementing many measures aimed at fulfilling the objectives of the initiative in practice.
The NZCE Initiative is open to all organizations associated with the events industry, from companies doing direct business in the industry through supporting organizations to customers and suppliers.
