ICOLD 2017: The Future Of Dams, Dikes And Water Reservoirs

A prestigious meeting of experts in the field of preparation, construction and the operation of dams and reservoirs is being organized by the Czech National Committee on Large Dams in cooperation with the International Commission on Large Dams.

The 85th Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams is going to be held at the Clarion Congress Hotel from July 3rd to 7th. The preparations have been underway, since July 2014, when the Czech National Committee on Large Dams managed to secure this event for the Czech Republic. We have been involved as the organizational partner since 2015. We are expecting participation of 900 delegates from around the world.

The Czech Republic was selected as an organizational country because, among other things, it has a long history in the development of dams. Since the Middle Age, dams have been built to ensure water supply and power. Some of the historical reservoirs are still in operation today and have also become natural reserves.

During the meeting, the topics of development and application of advanced materials, technologies and solutions in dyke technology will be discussed along with many others such as improvement in the field of dam safety, site security, uncertainty and risks in designing dams.

Participants can look forward to a rich professional program, which includes technical workshops, expert assignments, working groups sessions, technical committees and last but not least, the ICOLD General Assembly. An added attraction and highlight of the program will be the technical inspection of specifically selected dams in five regions of Bohemia and Moravia.

The 85th Annual Meeting of International Commission on Large Dams is going to be held under the auspices of Mr. Marian Jurečka, Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic.
