PRAGUE BOATS Put an End to Single-Use Plastics

For more than 25 years PRAGUE BOATS has been organising regular cruises through the historic centre of Prague as well as private boat events. In thier fleet you will find not only modern boats meeting strict emission standards, but also hybrid or electric vessels. PRAGUE BOATS has long strived to become an ecological company, and they have discarded disposable plastics on all their cruises and they use biodegradable cups and straws in their outdoor bars.

Ivana Šumpelová, Head of Sales DEKOS: "The compostable material from which these cups are made looks like ordinary plastic, but is made from renewable sources based on corn starch. Composting takes place with the help of moisture, high temperatures and soil bacteria. This material is certified to a European standard, is safe for health and suitable for direct contact with food."

The widespread use of bio-plastics, however, faces the problem that most composting plants in the Czech Republic are not built to handle them. That's why the PRAGUE BOATS recycle cups and straws right on our boats in GREENGOOD composters.

Zuzana Veberová, operator of the Grand Bohemia: "The cups and straws are first processed in a shredder and then added to the kitchen waste and placed in a composter. In 24 hours, the composter turns waste into compost, which we also use to fertilise trees."
