Taste the Gold Winning Honey - From a Hotel Rooftop!

The honey from the rooftop of Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague won the highest award for the fifth time in a row – the gold medal in the Czech honey competition

Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague is celebrating unprecedented success. The bees from the hotel rooftop won the gold medal for the fifth time in a row, the highest award from the Czech Beekeeping Research Institute.

Vienna House by Wyndham in the Czech Republic placed beehives on the roofs of its hotel buildings several years ago. By doing so, they contribute to biodiversity. Beekeeping thrives in city centers (where hotels are mainly located) because there aren't as many competing insects, and the trees and plants aren't fertilized as much. Thanks to this, the city's honey has the best taste, which is now confirmed by the award in the Czech honey competition five years in a row.

"Beehives at Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague are very popular among guests. They can view them safely from the hotel corridor or watch the live broadcast of the events around the beehive on TV from the comfort of their room 24 hours a day," says Kateřina Joklová, General manager of Vienna House by Wyndham Andel's Prague, adding: "Guests can exclusively taste the gold awarded honey at the hotel breakfasts, where it is part of the rich buffet, or at the coffee break during conferences."

In addition to the bee keeping on hotel roofs, Vienna House by Wyndham in the Czech Republic strives to continuously reduce its ecological footprint by introducing energy-saving devices, heat pumps and LED lights. Hotels prefer local suppliers, grow their own vegetables, herbs, and lavender, from which they prepare homemade lemonade. In 2023, Vienna House by Wyndham has planted a forest in the Czech Republic. The hotels are also proud holders of the official Wyndham Green certificate.
