The World Experts on Plant Hormones will Gather in Prague for the 10th Time
The Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences and GUARANT International organizes a meeting of scientists examining plant hormones during the first week of July. World experts in this field shall meet for the tenth time at the Conference "Auxins and Cytokinins in Plant Development” taking place at the Vienna House Diplomat Prague.
Experts will focus on two key groups of hormones - auxins and cytokinins. These substances control or substantially affect plant development, growth, physiological processes and responses to various stresses such as heat or drought.
The event takes place under the auspices of Professor Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Martin Vágner, Director of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IEB).
"Research on the regulation of plant growth and development and plant signaling substances (hormones) has a very long history and a very good quality in the Czech Republic and in Czechoslovakia. The meeting of scientists dealing with plant hormones (especially auxins and cytokines) has a long tradition in Prague and has gradually developed into top-level meetings in this field. It is so top-notch that the representatives of the most important teams just have to be here," says Professor Zažímalová.
Over 220 scientists from 27 countries, including, for example, the USA, Australia, Japan or South Korea, will arrive in Prague. "There will be a practically complete world’s top - almost all the major scientists we have addressed have enthusiastically accepted our invitation and will lecture in Prague. We are very happy about this," says Dr. Klára Hoyerová from the Organizing Committee.
This year's conference is the tenth similar meeting of plant hormone experts organized by the IEB. The first one took place in Liblice in 1972 and was one of the few possibilities where scientists from the Communist countries could meet in person with their West European and American colleagues. Since 1999, the conference has used the current name.
