Václav Havel Airport Prague Conquers Another Record

Václav Havel Airport Prague has experienced the three strongest summer months in terms of operations, handling record 4,912,087 passengers from June to August 2017, with most of flights headed to Moscow, Paris, London and Amsterdam. Thanks to the season, a significant year-on-year growth was experienced by Antalya and Burgas, popular holiday destinations, while travellers from Prague also shown increased interest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

“In the three summer months, Václav Havel Airport Prague handled 15% more passengers than during the same period of the previous year. From the passenger number perspective, July became the record month with 1.7 million handled passengers,” Václav Řehoř, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, said, adding: “This spring estimates, which suggested the possibility of another record growth, were thus confirmed. The reasons remain the same as during the first half of the year: The combination of new destinations and increased capacity or frequency offered by operating carriers, confirming the constant interest in Prague. Last, but not least, the results were also influenced by the growth in the number of transported passengers and a very high average aircraft load factor, which in July and August exceeded the 85% mark.”

The greatest year-on-year increase in the number of transported passengers was experienced by the airport in June, with 19% more passengers handled than the year before. August was the strongest month in terms of the number of take-offs and landings, namely 14,922, representing a 9% year-on-year increase.

Moscow, Paris, London and Amsterdam were the most frequented destinations from Prague. The Russian Federation capital experienced more than 15% year-on-year growth in the number of transported passengers from Prague. Tel Aviv in Israel became the fourth busiest destinations operated from Prague during the summer months, with 20% year-on-year increase in the number of passengers recorded. More passengers than last year also headed to Antalya, Turkey (+50%) and Burgas, Bulgaria (+20%). Dubai remained the busiest long-haul destination. In terms of countries, the most flights from Prague headed to Great Britain, the traditional winner of the ranking.

Last summer, Václav Havel Airport Prague was serviced by 69 air carriers offering flights to 162 destinations worldwide.
